Step by Step Up the Mountain

Step by Step up the Mountain.JPG

The picture here is of Gary and our son Timothy hiking up a mountain, step by step, side by side. This scene reminds me of God’s faithfulness. God is always there walking with us, empowering us for whatever steps we must climb to get to the top of our mountain. The top of the mountain for Gary and me is LIBERIA. The steps are many and steep, but God is faithful to walk with us each step of the climb.

Part of those steps this past month has been related to Gary’s job—–the uncertainty of when the job will end, where to go next while waiting to go back to LIBERIA, and a sudden transfer to California which did not turn out. During this time, Gary caught a violent strain of flu which turned into pneumonia. He is sick in bed.

At this point in time our trailer home is in storage, and we are living with my sister Carol and her husband Buzz. They both felt that God wanted them to help us get to Liberia sooner, by providing a free place to live. And a boy named Owen from a small Christian church, gave us his double bed. Isn’t God good? Step by step and side by side He walks with us, leading the way!

Dear Ruth & Gary…As I was looking at your website and came across this picture of Gary & Timothy walking up the steps it so reminded me of the Beth Moore Bible Study I’m doing called “STEPPING UP a journey through the Psalms of Ascent”. It is a wonderful study of 15 psalms (120-134). These Psalms are songs of pilgrimage and were sung going up the 15 steps in the temple. The steps were located between the Court of Women and the Court of the Israelites at the Nicanor Gate. One Psalm per step up. These psalms were sung on the pilgrimage to the Three Great Feasts. Deu 16:16-17 & Ex 23:14 Cross-reference Psalms 84:5-7 and Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24 According to the Talmud, the 15 psalms somehow developed a connection to 15 steps of the temple. So strong is the association that they were labled each psalm a song of the steps. These songs were sung by exiles returning to Jerusalem after Babylonian captivity….I could just go on and on…It is such a wonderful study!! I was so taken when I saw the picture of the steps and Gary and Timothy….Ruth is there any way I can send you the study book? Please let me know….. I know that the Lord had a purpose in me sharing this with you…..I hope it will bless & encourage you and Gary.
